The Cavs have announced their official training camp roster. It features the 14 players the team currently has under guaranteed contacts, plus sixtraining camp invitees, who have non-guaranteed contracts.
The six players are Rob Kurz, Andre Barrett, Coby Karl, Luke Nevill, Russell Robinson and Darryl Watkins.
Kurz, who played his college ball at Notre Dame, averaged 3.9 points per game with the Golden State Warriors last season. He is known as an excellent perimeter shooter.
Barrett has bounced around the NBA and NBDL since his career at Seton Hall University ended in 2004. He averaged 15.3 points and 5.3 assists in his career with the Pirates. The Florida Flame drafted the 5′10″ guard with the first overall pick in the 2005 NBDL Draft. He has played with a total of three NBDL teams, averaging 17.8 points in his career with the league. The former McDonald’s All-American has played in a total of 67 NBA games with six different teams.
Karl is the son of Denver Nuggets head coach George Karl and played college basketball at Boise State. The only NBA roster he has been on is the Los Angeles Lakers, whom he was with for the 2007-08 season. He played in 18 total games for the Lakers, including one playoff game. Karl, who is 6′5″, has also been a part of two NBDL teams and the Spanish pro club Joventut Badalona.
The 7′2″ Nevill is a rookie out of the University of Utah, where he averaged 16.8 points during his senior season.
Robinson, who was a senior on the 2008 National Champion Kansas Jayhawks, is known as an excellent defender. He played with the Reno Bighorns of the NBDL last season, averaging 12.3 points and 2.1 steals in 50 games.
The final training camp invitee is Watkins, who is 6′11″ from Syracuse. He appeared in nine games with the Sacramento Kings during the 2007-08 season, scoring a total of 12 points. Watkins finished out the 2008 with two different NBDL teams, the Los Angeles D-Fenders and the Iowa Energy.
With 14 players already under contract with the team it is likely that only one of the six invitees will make the Cavalier’s regular season roster, which would bring Cleveland to the 15 player maximum allotted per franchise.
